I’ve always been doing something creative since I was a kid. It’s a big part of who I am.
I loved books when I was little. Bedtime stories started with the imagination of Enid Blyton’s Far Away Tree, which was followed by C.S. Lewis and The Chronicles of Narnia in primary school, and then Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale in high school.
I entered my first writing competition when I was nine, where I was featured in the newspaper for winning an award, but I didn’t decide to become a writer until much later. I attempted to learn scriptwriting when I was eighteen, but I fell in love with the art of making movies instead. There was something magical about working on a film set and watching a scene come together, knowing that I was a part of it.
So, I went off to university and studied a double degree in business management and screen production. After finishing uni, I dipped my toes into film producing and made a few local indie films before moving to Sydney where I worked for an independent film company. Things took an unexpected turn in Sydney, which led me onto the path of becoming a marketing manager. A few years later, I moved back to Perth and made a career in marketing.
I started writing my first book when I was thirty-two. It was the Christmas holidays, and funnily enough, I had just broken my wrist. I was stuck in my old bedroom at my parents’ house for my entire holiday break, which quicky became a dire situation. I figured I still had one good hand and I wasn’t going to put off writing any longer. It was in this moment that my writing journey truly began, and I haven’t stopped since.
I have a great love for darker stories and characters, which is why I’ve gravitated towards the psychological thriller genre for a long time. These are the stories that light me up and get my attention. Maybe it’s because of my fascination with the human mind, or maybe it’s because I’ve been exposed to a lot of different situations throughout my life. I can appreciate the rebels and misfits who are finding their place in the world.
I’ve just finished writing my first novel and have started work on the second. Both are domestic suspense novels driven by strong, complex female characters who are trying to survive their past.
Born and raised in Perth, I’m a lover of hot climates and prefer to be near the beach than anywhere else. Like many Perthians, I’m a world traveller, and can never stay in one place for too long.
When I’m not in my writing cave, I can be found going for long coastal walks, bingeing the latest psychological thriller TV series, getting lost in a good book, enjoying long lunches with friends, or munching on my endless stash of peanut M&M’s.
